Quick answer

The Shared Trip Bromo, Ijen & Tumpak Sewu 2027 is a 3-day, 2-night adventure through East Java’s three biggest natural icons: a Bromo sunrise with a 4WD jeep, Ijen’s rare blue flame at dawn, and a hike to the base of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. You travel by private car with a driver and local guide, and the route runs either Malang to Banyuwangi or Banyuwangi to Malang. The price is IDR 2,550,000 per person for international visitors and IDR 2,250,000 for domestic travellers. It includes transport, fuel, tolls, parking, a Bromo jeep, entrance tickets, a mask, a headlamp and photo and video documentation. Hostel stays and restaurant meals are extra.

The alarm that rings before the roosters

Picture it. It is 2:00 a.m. in Cemoro Lawang, the air is cold enough to see your breath, and a jeep waits outside with its headlights cutting through the dark. You are half asleep, wrapped in a jacket, wondering why anyone would choose this over a lie-in.

Then the jeep climbs, the stars go quiet, and the sky behind Mount Bromo turns from ink to orange. A volcano smokes in the distance. Someone hands you a hot coffee. Suddenly the alarm feels like the best decision of your holiday.

That is the rhythm of this trip: early starts, big views, and a different kind of wonder each day. In three days you see a volcano sunrise, a blue fire that glows only in the dark, and a waterfall that tumbles down a cliff like a curtain. Here is how it all fits together.

Is this trip right for you?

It suits you if you are comfortable with very early starts, cold mornings and uphill walking, and want three headline sights in a few days without organising transport yourself.

Think twice if you prefer slow mornings, struggle with steep climbs, or have breathing problems. Ijen’s crater involves volcanic gas, which is why a mask is provided, and authorities can restrict access when conditions are unsafe.

What to pack

  1. Warm jacket, beanie and gloves (Bromo is cold before sunrise)
  2. Sturdy shoes with grip (Ijen and Tumpak Sewu paths can be slippery)
  3. Quick-dry clothes and a spare set for the waterfall
  4. Phone or camera with a full battery and a power bank
  5. Cash for meals, tips and small purchases
  6. Any personal medication

When to travel

Departures are scheduled twice a week from February to December 2027, listed as Monday to Wednesday and Thursday to Saturday. Mount Bromo reopened on 19 September 2026 after a savanna-fire closure, a reminder that conditions on volcanoes can change. If your dates are fixed, message the team to confirm the latest access status closer to departure.
