Bromo, Ijen & Tumpak Sewu in 3 Days: East Java Shared 2027 or Private Trip Anytime You Can Go (From IDR 1,695,000)

Three days, three wonders, two ways to go. Join a scheduled shared trip from IDR 2,250,000 per person, or book a private trip from Malang or Banyuwangi from IDR 1,695,000 per person for a group of 10. Jeep, tickets, guide, fuel and tolls are included.

Quick answer

You can do this 3-day Bromo, Ijen and Tumpak Sewu route as a shared trip or a private trip. The shared trip costs IDR 2,550,000 per person for international visitors and IDR 2,250,000 for domestic travellers, and departs on fixed dates from February to December 2027. The private trip starts from Malang or Banyuwangi, and its price per person falls as your group grows: IDR 3,375,000 for 2 people down to IDR 1,695,000 for 10. Both include transport, driver, fuel, tolls, parking, a Bromo 4WD jeep, three entrance tickets, a mask, a headlamp, a local guide and photo and video documentation. Hostel stays and restaurant meals are extra.

The alarm that rings before the roosters

Picture it. It is 2:00 a.m. in Cemoro Lawang, the air is cold enough to see your breath, and a jeep waits outside with its headlights cutting through the dark. You are half asleep, wrapped in a jacket, wondering why anyone would choose this over a lie-in.

Then the jeep climbs, the stars go quiet, and the sky behind Mount Bromo turns from ink to orange. A volcano smokes in the distance. Someone hands you a hot coffee. Suddenly the alarm feels like the best decision of your holiday.

That is the rhythm of this trip: early starts, big views, and a different kind of wonder each day. In three days you see a volcano sunrise, a blue fire that glows only in the dark, and a waterfall that tumbles down a cliff like a curtain. Here is how it all fits together.

For international visitors, the private price per person equals the shared price at 3 people and is lower from 4 people up. Couples and solo travellers usually pay less on the shared trip, while groups of 4 or more get their own car and schedule for less per person.

Pick the shared trip if you are travelling solo or as a pair, or want a fixed departure date.

Pick a private trip if you have 3 or more people, want your own pace, or need to start from a specific city.

Because fuel, tolls, parking, three entrance tickets and the Bromo jeep are bundled in, there are fewer surprise costs once you are on the road. Budget separately for lodging (IDR 100,000 per person at the hostels listed), meals and tips.

Is this trip right for you?

It suits you if you are comfortable with very early starts, cold mornings and uphill walking, and want three headline sights in a few days without organising transport yourself.

Think twice if you prefer slow mornings, struggle with steep climbs, or have breathing problems. Ijen’s crater involves volcanic gas, which is why a mask is provided, and authorities can restrict access when conditions are unsafe.

What to pack

  1. Warm jacket, beanie and gloves (Bromo is cold before sunrise)
  2. Sturdy shoes with grip (Ijen and Tumpak Sewu paths can be slippery)
  3. Quick-dry clothes and a spare set for the waterfall
  4. Phone or camera with a full battery and a power bank
  5. Cash for meals, tips and small purchases
  6. Any personal medication

When to travel

Departures are scheduled twice a week from February to December 2027, listed as Monday to Wednesday and Thursday to Saturday. Mount Bromo reopened on 19 September 2026 after a savanna-fire closure, a reminder that conditions on volcanoes can change. If your dates are fixed, message the team to confirm the latest access status closer to departure.

Private trips are arranged with the team. The two private pages do not show a departure date list, so confirm your dates when you enquire.
